We live in a society where there is tremendous pressure to look good. Even the most beautiful people are not good enough for our media – they are airbrushed and filtered and spend hours getting ready, just to live up to the impossible standards we put on appearance. These celebrities are then presented to us as role-models with the message everyone should look like them all the time, which is just impossible.
At the same time, we now have access to a huge wealth of unhealthy, high sugar foods which contain chemically created fats, preservatives and flavourings that our bodies have not evolved to deal with. Our ancestors wouldn’t even recognise most of the things we now regularly eat. We are bombarded with advertisements for these foods and we are told that they ‘give us energy’ or that they are a ‘treat’ that ‘we deserve’.
We are subliminally trained to associate these unhealthy foods with feelings of fun and happiness and love. At the same time, they cause us to release brain chemicals which seem to confirm these falsely positive associations. No wonder so many of us struggle with our weight!

Obesity is rife in the developed world. Our societies have collectively developed very unhealthy attitudes towards eating. We yo-yo between strict diets and binge-eating, never happy with ourselves. And all the while we have lost touch of the reason we eat in the first place – to provide the nutrition our body needs to function healthily.
People who are overweight often have feelings of guilt and shame. They suffer with poor self-esteem and confidence issues. This, together with all the positive associations we have with eating certain undesirable foods, means that unravelling our unhealthy eating patterns can be extremely complex. But it is possible.

Hypnotherapy can help to address the underlying emotional and behavioural causes of over-eating. It can help us break ingrained habits, replacing unhealthy patterns of behaviour with positive ones instead.
Studies also show that hypnosis can also have a significant effect on the levels of leptin in the body – the hormone that regulates appetite. Rather than encouraging an unrealistic and overly strict diet, which can be equally unhealthy, hypnosis creates a new, healthy attitude towards food and exercise which lasts for life.
